Mr. Addison began his legal career with McDonald Carano as a law clerk in the summer of 1989 and 1990. He joined the firm as an associate in 1991 and became a partner in 1998. He practices primarily in commercial litigation and has litigated matters in four Western states. Mr. Addison has substantial experience handling all phases of litigation, including motion practice, discovery, arbitration, and bench and jury trials in city, state, and federal courts, and appeals before the Nevada Supreme Court.
A substantial portion of his practice involves defending construction clients and major propane distribution companies in matters involving construction defects, significant personal injuries, and property damage. More recently, Mr. Addison’s practice has focused on providing court-appointed and private arbitration and mediation services over a broad spectrum of matters.
Complex Commercial & Construction Litigation
Mr. Addison built his substantial and diverse commercial litigation experience primarily by defending major entities against allegations of significant liability. His early trial work included personal injury matters, from both plaintiff and defense perspectives. This background has steadily grown to include intellectual property, natural resources, real property, and construction defect matters. As an illustration of the diversity of his practice, Mr. Addison has successfully represented a major propane distribution company in personal injury and property damage cases in California, Nevada, Utah, and Colorado and has advised the Reno/Sparks Association of Realtors on all its administrative and litigation matters for more than twenty years. With regard to construction disputes, in particular, Mr. Addison has consistently and successfully represented a wide variety of clients, including a national homebuilder, a major hotel/casino, a national general contractor, and a number of the most respected Northern Nevada contractors and subcontractors in state and federal courts across Nevada and California. He has extensive experience in the areas of mechanic’s liens, bond claims, and construction contracts.
Dispute Resolution Services
Over the course of his extended service as a pro-tem trial judge in the Reno Municipal Court, Mr. Addison has heard and decided over fifty criminal trials, primarily involving DUI and domestic violence offenses. As a court-appointed and private arbitrator, he has issued binding decisions in numerous fee dispute, breach of contract, personal injury, and construction matters. As a private mediator and settlement conference pro-tem judge, Mr. Addison has also successfully negotiated resolutions to complex business disputes and breach of construction contract matters.
